Alex Bragg

Alexander Bragg  is a leading British event rider based in Somerset, celebrated not just for his results but for his distinctive journey into the sport. Originally a semi-professional rugby player, Alex stepped away from the saddle for several years to train and work as a farrier. But in 2012, with a bit of encouragement (and perhaps a strategic nudge) from his wife Simmone, he returned to riding—and hasn’t looked back since.

Together, Alex and Simmone run Team Bragg, a busy and successful operation that balances top-level competition with family life. Their three daughters—Ellouise, Sienna, and Florence—are all enthusiastic riders and active members of their local pony club, making horses very much a family affair.

Alex made his debut at the iconic Badminton Horse Trials in 2017 and has since become a familiar face at the sport’s biggest events, including Burghley, Pau, and Luhmühlen.
One of his career highlights came in 2018 when he claimed victory in a leg of the prestigious Event Rider Masters series at Haras de Jardy aboard his long-time partner, Zagreb

His partnership with **Zagreb**, a Dutch Warmblood stallion, has been particularly fruitful. Together, they’ve earned a string of impressive results:
3rd – Luhmühlen CCI5*-L (2019)
4th – Pau CCI5*-L (2019)
4th – Pau CCI5*-L (2020)

Another rising star in his stable is the Irish-bred Oldenburg mare Quindiva, owned by the Roe family. Quindiva has quickly made her mark at the top level of the sport, finishing 3rd at Badminton 2024 and delivering a classy double-clear to place 8th at the Defender Burghley Horse Trials. She also showed her versatility by winning the Ashby Underwriting Eventers’ Challenge at Hickstead that same year.

Alex has twice represented Britain at the World Young Horse Championships, earning top-ten finishes on both occasions.

Despite his accomplishments, Alex remains refreshingly grounded. From the rugby field to five-star arenas, Alex’s journey is a testament to hard work, passion, and grit. With a growing list of results and horses coming through the ranks, he continues to be a respected and admired figure in the world of equestrian sport.
